Distribution of mobile phone platforms

Business partners often ask us how the different mobile phone platforms perform on our service. Our strategy was and will be to deliver our services on any platform that is relevant. Currently that would encompass seven platforms (although some primarily are kept for historical reasons). Through having more than one million installations, the numbers should be relatively representative (at least for Germany). One cannot keep them uncommented, but when we share the distribution, we gladly share it with you.
Here is the distribution of scans using barcoo in September 2010:
Samsumg bada is extremely prominent. The success we experienced with the launch of barcoo on bada at the beginning of August nearly knocked our socks off. Certainly this is due to Samsung Apps not bustling with as many other high quality apps like other app directories. We are excited to see how this plattform will continue to develop.
Android continues to become stronger with every month and is slowly, but surely, taking away market shares from the other players. We have had the advantage to be present on the German Android market from Day One in Germany and therefore to have obtained a dream position in this (not very agile) market. We have neglected the Nokia Symbian platform but we are hoping it’s market share will rise again as soon as our new release (1.5 years after the last one) goes live at the Ovi Store. The new release will not only support more current models but will also greatly improve the user experience.

Do you know when the new version of Barcoo will be available for Symbian? I’m quite interested in this product but the existing version doesn’t work at all on my Nokia 5230. I think that the phone’s camera is possibly not good enough, because the application runs, but never actually recognises any barcodes.

Schade, dass die Version für Windows Mobile so stiefmütterlich behandelt wird. Wäre dem nicht so, wären die Nutzungszahlen für Windows Mobile sicherlich höher…

das ist aber schade, denn in der aktuellen c’t habt ihr ganz gut abgeschnitten – aber leider unterstützt keiner der Shopping-Apps WP7.
Muss ich wohl woanders weitersuchen.

Hey ho,
Marcus hat recht, es wäre ein logischer schritt,viele wp7-User sind einstige android oder iPhone-User die was neues wollten (wie ich auch, Hab alles schon durch und bin von wp7 begeistert) und wollen oftmals ihre geliebten apps, also auch barcoo, weiter nutzen.bitte seid schlauer als firmen wie navigon usw und portiert auch auf wp7… Es hat enormes Potential!

Gibt es inzwischen neue Überlegungen / Pläne barcoo auch für WP7 verfügbar zu machen? Alle dort bisher verfügbaren Apps sind sehr dürftig, was im Umkehrschluss ein Riesen-Potential für barcoo bedeutet.

vielen Dank für Deine Nachricht. Bislang können wir noch nicht sagen ob und wann es eine Version für WP7 geben wird. Falls dies jedoch der Fall sein sollte, erfährst Du es hier.

Hallo zusammen,
derzeit gibt es noch nichts Neues bezüglich Windows Phone 7. Aber man kann barcoo auch im Browser nutzen. Surft mit Euren Smartphones einfach auf http://www.barcoo.com, dort könnt Ihr die EAN oder einen Suchbegriff eingeben und erhaltet dann die Informationen wie in der App, nur anders dargestellt.
